Judy Farrow is a textile artist who lives in Parksville, B.C.
She lived for many years in the Northwest Territories (now called Nunavut), in Iqaluit on Baffin Island and in Yellowknife. She worked as a teacher and researcher and travelled extensively in the Canadian North with her husband. Her fabric art captures beautiful images of the wildlife, landscapes, and light in that part of the world.
Judy was active as a quilter and teacher with the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts and the Yellowknife Quilters.
Her work has been shown nationally and internationally. After teaching for many years, Judy now works as a studio artist, creating textile art in her Little Mountain Studio in Parksville. Some of her quilted wallhangings are currently on display in an exhibition at The Old School House Arts Centre in Qualicum Beach, B.C. The longer I looked at her quilts, the more I was drawn in by the designs, the colours, the stitching, and the attention to detail.

As an aside, there is a nice quilt shop in the Parksville area on Vancouver Island. Sweet Pea Quilting on Island Highway East (19A) has a lovely, good-sized selection of fabrics, leaning towards the contemporary style, and lots of project and quilt samples to inspire. At the back of the store is a long-arm quilting machine, and it was interesting to watch a king-size quilt being quilted.
