Quilt BC in Penticton was great!!
On Thursday evening we were able to visit the merchant mall. It was excellent with stores that are all over BC and a few that are online.
We could also see the Trend Tex Challenge display. Seeing the entries for real was certainly a treat and I managed to get pictures of Yoskyl’s and my (Marilyn’s) hangings.
Yoskyl’s and Marilyn’s entries for the Trend Tex Challenge 2013
Friday and Saturday we went to the rest of the shows, met the woman behind the Quilts of Valour (she sends her thanks for the quilts we sent), and explored a bit more of the merchant mall.
There were two other rooms. In one room was a Trend Tex Challenge Retrospective with hangings from previous TT Challenges. Also in this picture you can see a docent who is taking a class of school children on a tour of the quilt shows.
Other shows were by Fibre Arts Network, Studio Arts Quilts Associates. The creativity was inspiring.
The juried show was in another room and pictures were not allowed. There will be a booklet of pictures of the entries that will come with a future edition of the CQA Newsletter (The Canadian Quilter).
Anna Hergert filled in for Libby Liebman as the speaker on Friday night.
Anna is an excellent speaker whose main point was to be observant and look around carefully in your environment for inspiration.
A few of us went to the dinner on Saturday night. We each received a bag, had a very nice dinner and were entertained by Penticton members in a skit, and by an excellent Elvis impersonator!
More pictures:
- on the Quilt BC 2013 Blog which includes a picture of the Viewers’ Choice award in the juried show. It is a Gulf Islands scene with two herons. The piece is about 4 feet by 6 feet and the herons are 3D. We found some of Gail Hunt’s confetti on some of the trees.
- on the CQA Blog. Here you will have to scroll down because there are newer posts since the conference. Note the Giggle cartoons.
What a trip! Next year is the larger conference and it is going to be in Niagara.
