Members Teaching Members

The programme for the November 2021 meeting was our traditional “Members Teaching Members,” but this year it happened online.

It was excellent. We are old hands on Zoom now!

Linda’s Banners

Linda F gave a trunk show of the wonderful banners that adorn her front door and change through the seasons.

She spoke about giving your quilts a place to shine in your home and switching them up to keep things fresh. We also learned about some innovative ways to hang quilts.

Fibre Fusion by Maureen

Maureen presented a slide show about “fibre fusion” – the process of creating new material with threads, yarns, and bits and pieces of all sorts of things, including foil chocolate wrappers! The new material can be dense or lacy.

The directions came from the Summer 2021 issue of Quilting Arts magazine.

She gave us tips about this technique, such as using water soluble stabilizers, choosing the best needles, getting the tension right, and selecting threads.

Maureen also prepared a video showing how to meld the various ingredients together with free motion quilting.

Small Gift Ideas from Penny

Penny gave us lots of ideas for making small gifts that are attractive and very useful.

Her live presentation included coasters, purse-sized Kleenex holders (will hold a gift card, too), a drawstring bag, a zipper bag, reusable shopping bags, and a doggie bag dispenser that can be attached to a belt.

Many thanks to Linda F, Maureen, and Penny for these great presentations. Check the website for writeups. There is a bonus writeup from Kathryn G with ideas for Christmas ornaments.

And many thanks to Marilyn and Barb for coordinating behind the scenes and on the day to make “Members Teaching Members” happen online this year. The Show and Tell presentation was great, too!
