Fabric Cutter Survey

November 24, 2022

The Board of Seymour Quilters Guild is wondering whether a fabric cutting machine would be useful for guild members.

Your input is requested to take this idea further.

About Fabric Cutting Machines:

The Library Committee was asked by the Board to research these machines, and the GO! Accuquilt fabric cutter was recommended for the following reasons:

  • Cuts accurately up to 6 layers at a time.
  • Has a hand roller that works smoothly.
  • Has easy to follow instructions.
  • Uses dies that are safe as the blades are embedded in Foam.
  • Is very portable with a handle and a protective cover.

Considerations:

  • Fabric cutting machines and the required accessories cost several hundred dollars.
  • Members would need to purchase their own mat which is required to feed fabric through the machine. The cost of the mat for each user would be between $15.00 and $25.00.
  • A weekly rental fee of $5.00 for the loan of the machine would go to the Library Committee for future purchase of dies for the cutter.
  • A member volunteer would be required to store and loan out the machine and accessories as requested, monitor the inventory, assess the condition of the equipment on a regular basis and determine maintenance, and instruct members of correct and safe use of the machine.
